Chakra Knowledge: The Heart Chakras

Most people are aware of the traditional heart chakra located near the actual heart of the human body. I want to touch on the three heart chakras.

There is a chakra located above the solar plexus, just at the ribcage. It is called the heart seed chakra and it is represented by the color pink. This chakra connects you to your path in life, and you would be a wandering and lost in life without it.

The heart chakra over your heart is represented by the color green, but pink also matches this energy center of unconditional love. Love and compassion come from this chakra. People with a blocked heart chakra may be insecure, untrusting, and disconnected from their feelings. I believe many of us have opportunities with our heart chakras - we have insecurities from the personal to the global (and probably intergalactic)level.

The higher heart chakra is located over the thymus (which is behind your breastbone). This chakra is unconditional love and is also pink. People with a blocked higher heart chakra may feel underprivileged and attach emotional hooks to you or they could push everyone away and be unable to share their feelings.

All together, these chakras cover our purpose (divine plane), love (including self-love, which gives us the confidence to walk out path), and compassion (able to help others).

Pink or green stones usually are good for the heart chakras. Most people start working with a rose quartz because it represents unconditional love. Pink, watermelon, and green tourmalines are good heart stones.

Try using sticktite, which is purple-pink, on your heart chakras. If you can't find sticktite, look for atlantasite, which is a combination of green serpentine and sticktite. I like sticktite because it connects the root, heart, and crown chakras. This stone is good for love, compassion, calming, protection against negativity, and forgiveness. It is also a great diet aid, as it assists with digestion and helps you fight food cravings, especially from stress.

Chakra Knowledge - Solar Plexus

Yellow.

It's the color of smiley faces, sunshine, and Tweety Bird. It is also the color of the solar plexus chakra, located between the navel and diaphragm . This is your emotion and willpower center. Blockage of the solar plexus may result in an overly emotional and lazy individual. This is where emotional baggage is stored. So many Americans carry excess weight, especially in the solar plexus area. What do you think this means about today's society?

Many of the stones associated with the solar plexus are golden: citrine, yellow apatite, yellow tourmaline, yellow sapphire, and Libyan desert glass. Other stones include tiger's eye, rhodochrosite, malachite, and merlinite.

Most citrine is created by heating amethyst. These heat-treated stones have different energies from natural citrine, but both types of citrine affect creativity, will, metabolism, and manifestation. Citrine is often used to increase energy while stimulating metabolism, which leads to weight loss. It is a good prosperity stone because it helps you understand your desire (will) and gives you the energy to go after it.

Chakra Knowledge - Sacral

My last post touched on the 1st chakra, which is called either the base or root chakra. Its color is red and it covers the basic human instincts. We follow the rainbow to the 2nd energy point: the sacral chakra. It is located below the belly button and its color is orange.

The sacral chakra is creative energy. Not only does it include procreation, but the sacral chakra is also the inspiration for artistic ideas and projects. The sacral chakra is responsible for confidence, valor, joy, and sexuality. Having a blocked sacral chakra can lead to arrogance, lethargy, low self-esteem, and infertility (both of the mind and the body).

If you're looking for stones that work with the sacral chakra, you're usually safe if you select orange stones: carnelian, orange calcite, bumblebee jasper, orange sapphire, and sunstone. If you want to branch out to other colors, citrine, blue and red jaspers, and infinite are other stones that work well with this chakra.

The crystal that pops into my head when I think of the 2nd chakra is carnelian. This stone can range in color from a light orange to almost red. Remember, it's your connection with the stone, not the color, that will determine how well this crystal will work for you. Keep this in mind because many dealers enhance stones by dying them.

Order Carnelian and Coil Bracelet here.

Did you know carnelian is a member in the Quartz club? It is an orange chalcedony, which is a silicon dioxide mineral that contains tiny tiny TINY quartz in layers. Since it contains quartz, carnelian is easily programmed. As with all stones, carnelian has many properties. It is up to you to focus its energy on the traits you need.

Carnelian works on the first three chakras (base, sacral, and solar plexus). This stone not only boosts your creativity, it also lights a fire underneath you so you get things done! Physically and mentally, its energy gets your blood flowing. It's hard to procrastinate when the vitality of carnelian is pushing your ideas into action and giving your body energy to move.

Carnelian can boost your metabolism and can assist people who easily get chilled.

This orange stone overcomes negativity in both people and other crystals, as it fights depression and can be used to cleanse stones. If depression stems from abuse, carnelian can cut through the negative patterns and help you rise above the issues.

Chakra Knowledge - Base/Root Chakra

This post will be short and sweet.

We're covering the base chakra today. When people refer to the base chakra, they call it the first chakra, even though Earth Star is below it. Some people call it the root chakra.

The base chakra starts at the end of your tailbone. Its associated color is red, so you'll see a lot of red stones associated with it. This chakra covers basic human instincts: independence, security, and a sense of power. People who have problems with their root chakra may be impulsive, angry, and impatient.

Some stones associated with the base chakra are bloodstone, obsidian, black tourmaline, red jasper, andalusite, carnelian, citrine, hematite, ruby, and rhodonite.

Chakra Knowledge - Earth Star

You need to understand the basics of chakras if you want to work with crystals. Chakras are channels through which the energy flows in your body. You may experience illness or negative issues if your chakras are blocked or closed. Since different crystals emit various frequencies, they can be used to balance the individual chakras.

There are countless chakras but most people focus on seven basic: root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown. My mentor taught us sixteen energy centers during her classes. I'll discuss the chakras in several different posts.

Energy flows from the ground up, so that's where you start when aligning your chakras.

Starting between your feet is the Earth chakra, which is the grounding point that aligns you to Earth. You must be grounded if you want to rationally function in life. Not having a connection to the Earth may cause a person's head to be in the clouds: they won't be able to live in the real world, they attract negativity, and they often feel they have no control over their lives.

If you really want to get technical, Earth star is a point about a foot below the soles of your feet. The Earth chakra (Judy Hall calls it "higher Earth") is between your feet. One connects you to Earth's etheric field and the other links you to the physical Earth. I've never worried about the differences in chakras during my meditations, and the two energy centers work with the same stones. For the most part, dark brown or black stones will work with these energy points, but I'll list some stones with other colors.

I carry black tourmaline with me for grounding and protection. Black tourmaline changes negative energy into positive, which is needed in today's stressful society. It also protects us from EMFs created by all of the electronics in our lives. Black tourmalated quartz (quartz with tourmaline inside) magnifies all the benefits of tourmaline and can be programmed.

One stone we forget works with the Earth chakra is charoite, as this mostly purple stone affects many chakras. It's great for keeping you grounded as you raise your frequency by working with the higher chakras. Charoite is a good stone for autistic children and those with ADD, as it keeps them grounded and focused on their task at hand. Other purposes of charoite are for protection, releasing negativity, and finding your path in life.

Some other stones that work with the Earth chakra are smoky quartz, obsidian, brown jasper, fire agate, hematite, astrophyllite, and rhodonite.

Moldavite

If you are ready to take a journey of transformation, moldavite is a stone for you. This high energy stone affects all chakras, and even people who don't believe in the power of crystals have admitted to feeling a pulsing sensation emitting from the stone. There is so much to say about moldavite, but Robert Simmons sums it up the best: "If one were forced to be marooned on a desert island with only one stone as an ally, Moldavite would be an excellent choice" (Book of Stones).

Moldavite was created when a meteorite hit what is now the Czech Republic over fourteen million years ago. Unfortunately, one can't just fly to Europe and start digging for this green stone - you have to know where to look and you need permits to dig more than a meter deep. I would love to know the right person who could take me into a moldavite mine, so if anybody knows anyone with access...

I'm not going to get into the Holy Grail connection or the spiritual/metaphysical properties listed by authors. Instead, I will share some of my personal experiences.

My first piece of moldavite is the pendant in the above picture (her name is Roberta). I had been looking for a stone that would boost my energy and the metaphysical store owner pushed me to this tektite. After one week, I realized my energy had increased and my overall attitude was more positive. I couldn't wear Roberta when I tried to sleep because my mind raced with the stone and I had no chance of sleeping (this has since changed). Overall, things started coming together when I worked with the moldavite (odd coincidences that benefitted me, finding exactly what I needed when I needed it, etc.).

The ring in the above picture was my mentor's before she passed. While Roberta has a smooth energy that flows through you, the ring has a masculine, forceful, jarring energy. I haven't yet worked with these two stones together, but I'm sure I will have a spiritual experience to remember when I do.

Please don't seek out moldavite until you're ready - the stone can make you light-headed or dizzy. Listen to your heart and you will know when it is time to work with moldavite.

Crystal Reading

People ask me what books I recommend if they want to learn about crystals. My collection is full of books, but I tend to use these the most: The Book of Stones (Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian), The Crystal Bible Volumes 1-3 (Judy Hall), and Love is in the Earth (Melody).

The Book of Stones is easy to use because it lists everything from the composition of the stone to the chakras affected, to what each stone does on an emotional, spiritual, and physical level. I love how Simmons lists which stones work best together - this helps me decide on specific stones when I'm making jewelry. The Book of Stones is a little more detailed in its descriptions than other books.

The Crystal Bible includes the attributes of each crystal, healing properties, and where on your body you should place the stones for the best effect. Since Hall has added volumes to her original book, her work includes more stones than The Book of Stones. Judy Hall is more attuned to crystal healing than other authors.

Love is in the Earth is a hefty tome that is useful when you can't find what you need from other books. I find myself looking for the most obscure stones in this book (Did you know there is a crystal known as Julienite?). Melody also has a paperback reference you can use to look up more information on crystals.

I recommend picking up a spiral notebook when you start your crystal journey. Write down the name of each stone at the top of the page and any information you want to include from your reference books. Then meditate with the stone. What do you feel (calm, anxious, happy, etc)? Do you feel pressure in any chakras? Do any colors come to mind? Record your thoughts and trust your intuition, as you may find uses for certain stones not listed in any book. Your observations are more important than any reference book.

Magical Mookaite

Everyone should have mookaite in their collection - just because it's fun to say.

What is it?
Mookaite is a jasper, which is part of the quartz family. It can have mixtures of yellows, browns, reds, greys, and white mixed through it.

What does it do?
I first sought out mookaite because it is said to assist with animal communication. It is also supposed to help with knowing the right path to take and to slow down the aging process. It is thought to help heal wounds and cleanse the blood.

Mookaite works with the root, solar plexus, and third eye chakras: grounding, willpower and intuition.

Since mookaite is a jasper (quartz), it can be programmed. Clear the stone and give it intention. I focused my thoughts on animal communication and sent the intention to the stones.

My animals didn't start talking. Well, they probably were talking but I wasn't listening. Mookaite aligns your vibrations with Mother Earth and "psychic" senses - it may take a while to "hear" anything from your fur babies.

Yes, I've had success with speaking with animals, but I haven't concentrated on it enough to expand my ability.  I heard from my sister's cat (my nephew) the first time I meditated with mookaite. It was simply the knowledge of Miles thinking of me and I heard "Hi Aunt."

After months of silence from my "kids," I finally purchased four nice pieces of mookaite and set a grid around my couch. Perrin jumped in my lap and I tried to focus on sending him a message. Yeah, it wasn't working. As soon as I relaxed my mind and turned to the tv, Perrin spoke to me. It sounded like a staticky radio was being played in my skull (above my forehead over my left eye). A little kid's voice said, "Nine," and then, "Fifty-four." Then nothing. Evidently, Perrin loves numbers.

Crystal Elements

Amethyst, smoky brandenburg quartz, and smoky citrine

I'm not going to lie and say I'm an expert on crystals. Yes, I know more about them than the average person, but don't ask me about the crystalline structure of a stone and expect an answer that isn't BS. Be aware I can't identify a stone just because it's sitting in front of me. Want to know from where the stone came? The rock shop is my best guess many times.

Most of my scientific education has been pushed to the back of my brain for useless information like how to connect coffee with Shakespeare when coffee wasn't introduced to Britain until mid to late 17th century (ask me about my great theory!). I'm not going to give you a dissertation on a crystal lattice or how electromagnetic energies work. What you get is this: crystal work is energy work. Energy moves through these crystalline structures and is altered or amplified. Silicon is used for computer chips, quartz is used in clocks and radios. Crystals are in lasers and medical equipment. You'll also find crystals in your medicine (lithium, anyone?).

The energy given off by crystals affects us. Our bodies. Our energies. Our lives.

Case point: my father was given a crystal necklace to assist with his health problems. He wasn't necessarily pro or anti crystal, and he wore the necklace. He forgot to put it on one morning and didn't have a good day. The necklace doesn't magically fix his problems, but my father does physically feel better, have a bit more energy, and breathe better when wearing the necklace.

Another case: a friend's husband was diagnosed with throat cancer. My friend worked with the doctors at the VA to learn about what was going on in her husband's body. The main doctor thought she was nuts, but the anesthesiologist was intrigued by the idea of using crystals in curing the body. My friend's husband had surgery, radiation, and crystal "therapy." The doctor who thought my friend was nuts had to admit her husband had the quickest cure/recovery time he'd ever seen. Maybe it was because of the wonderful health care offered to our veterans (sarcasm font). It is probable the crystals worked in conjunction with the standard cancer treatment to heal this man.

Please do not forgo medical treatment of any major issue/illness because you have crystals.

If you would like to look into crystals to assist with your health, I recommend trying seraphinite (#1 healing stone), fluorite (great for colds), and green tourmaline to start. Read up on how to use the stones to help you (grids, carrying, elixirs) before you begin working with them. You'll soon find yourself looking for other crystals to benefit your life.
